Clive Rose representing the Kingborough Knights in the 2018 Beastwear NICL season
Tasmania moved into Round 4 of their NICL schedule on the first day of winter, playing out of High Performance Cricket with three of the local sides in action.
Eastern Shore Roos player Jack Bowerman got the game underway, taking the new ball against the Huon & Channel Hornets.
The Hornets opened up with two of their most experienced players in captain Morgan McGuire and Stu Clark, putting together a formidable 20 runs between them. From there the Roos put the brakes on the Hornets, restricting the second partnership to just 2 runs. The third pair for the Hornets fought back with Ryan Panton and Dylan Keating piling on 33 runs, and the last pair added on 15 to get the Hornets to a total of 70 at innings end.
The Roos batters all pitched in with even contributions across the board. Partnerships of 24, 23, 24 and 35 saw them exceed the Hornets total comfortably. Shaun Frogson and Jarrod Johnson top scored at 19 runs a-piece in their team's 36-run victory. Andrew Pender was the standout with ball for the local side taking 2/-5.
In the other game of the round, Hobart South lost the toss and the Kingborough Knights chose to field first. South's skipper Mark Divin opened up with the experienced Dave Griffiths but they were kept to just 12 runs by the Knights who were fantastic with the ball all game. Hobart South posted a hard fought 71 with Ash Hutchinson and Stu Conway the pick of the batsmen, contributing 33 to the total from their partnership alone.
The Knights kick-started their batting innings with a 23-run partnership between Declan West and Tom Martyn. Hobart South then applied the brakes with young leg spinner Caedence Kuepper finding his length. The Knights second and third pairs added 24 between them, leaving the last pair of Sam Martyn and Hobart Hurricanes BBL Player Clive Rose requiring 25 for the win. The experience of Rose shone through as he contributed 21 runs off his own bat to steer the Knights to a four run win.
Round 5 will be played on Friday 15th June at Action Indoor Sports Eastern Shore with two massive games. The Eastern Shore Bombers (returning from the bye) take on Hobart South while the Eastern Shore Roos meet the Kingborough Knights.
