Melton Falcons and the Kings were the winners in their respective men’s and women’s Victoria West division live-streamed 2017 Beastwear National Indoor Cricket League - National Match of the Day games Sunday 4 June.

In the men’s match, the Melton Falcons won a thrilling contest which went down to the final delivery.

The Melton Falcons batted first against the Northcote Knights, but only managed to put 66 runs on the board, despite being 46 at the midway point following solid stands between Grant McDonald and Steve Szabo, followed by Brad Jones and David Simpson.

However, it proved enough - just.

The Knights looked set to cruise to victory after a 36-run partnership at the top from Phil Hiah and Jarrod Burns.

But the scores were level with one ball remaining, and on the final ball, there was a run-out at the non-strikers end, giving the Falcons a memorable win.

In the women’s match, the Kings enjoyed a more comfortable win, defeating the Melton women by 31 runs.

The Kings batted first, and a big final stand from Nicole Martin and Maddie Wright of 39 runs led them to a total of 91.

In reply, Melton struggled to keep up the pace, with a double-hattrick for Katia Jomini in the 12th over putting paid to Melton’s chances.

Briony Polkinghorne and Sue Rose combined for 36 runs in the final pair, as their side finished at 60 runs.

Around the country, and in Tasmania, HPC Hobart South defeated the Eastern Shore Roos by four runs, while HPC Huon & Channel were too strong for the Eastern Shore Bombers.

In South Australia’s women’s division, Stepney Steelers and Stepney Devils enjoyed wins, while in South-East Queensland, Victoria Point Vipers and Gold Coast Cyclones had wins.

This weekend, the National Match of the Day heads to the South-East Queensland division.

The Toombul Tigers will play the Victoria Point Vipers at 6.15pm in the women’s division match, followed by the Toombul Tigers taking on the K&R Plumbing Supplies Toowoomba Dragons at 8pm in the men’s division match.
